Dalton police are looking for two people who allegedly stole a ferret last week.

According to a release from the department, a man and woman hung around the ferret cage inside Petland on West Walnut Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. The woman asked for a credit application to purchase the ferret, valued at $230. She then crumpled up the paper and stuffed it in her bag, telling the workers that her boyfriend would take care of the purchase.

Later, when employees weren't paying attention, the ferret bit the woman's hand.

"The ferret's heroic effort to stay in hopes of one day being purchased legally proved futile, however," a spokesman for the department said in a news release.

The man lifted the ferret from its cage and dropped it in the woman's bag. The three then left the store.

It's not clear what, if any, name the ferret answers to. Anyone with information on the ferret or its captors can contact Dalton Police Officer Colten McDaniel at 706-278-9085 (extension 9593) or cmcdaniel2@daltonga.gov.
