NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A hearing has been set for a Tennessee teen charged in the death of a Nashville police officer.

The Tennessean reports 17-year-old Jayona Brown is set to appear in juvenile court next month. Brown is charged with offenses including vehicular homicide in the Independence Day death of Officer John Anderson.

Investigators say Brown was fleeing police last week and crashed into Anderson's cruiser, sending it into a utility pole. The cruiser then caught on fire. The 28-year-old officer had been responding to an unrelated call and died at the scene. An 18-year-old passenger in Brown's car was hospitalized. Their condition is unclear.

Police spokesman Don Aaron has said Brown was known to police. Her record is not available as she's a juvenile. Prosecutors want the case moved to adult court.
