ATLANTA (AP) - A federal lawsuit accuses a white Georgia couple of evicting a white tenant because she invited a black family to the home she was renting.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday says Patricia and Allen McCoy used racial slurs when telling Victoria Sutton to leave the home in Adairsville, about 60 miles (97 kilometers) northwest of Atlanta.
Reached by phone, Patricia McCoy said she hadn't seen the lawsuit. She said they evicted Sutton because she was nasty, destructive and had a cat when she'd been told no pets were allowed. McCoy denied using a racial slur or saying she didn't want black people on her property.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia filed the housing discrimination lawsuit on Sutton's behalf and says Sutton recorded McCoy using the slur.
