A man has died as a result of a car crash a week earlier in Chattanooga, according to police.

Chattanooga police responded to 6510 Bonny Oaks Drive on July 11 at about 2:31 p.m. following calls about a serious crash, according to a news release.

Traffic investigators determined a Ford Explorer was traveling west on Bonny Oaks Drive and it drifted into the path of a Ford F-350 that was traveling east on the same road, the news release states.

The driver of the F-350, 59-year-old David Fields, told police he was unable to avoid the collision and the two vehicles crashed head-on, according to the news release.

The Explorer, driven by 56-year-old Mac Evans, rotated into the roadway while the F-350 veered off the road to the left, the news release states.

Evans was entrapped and had to be extricated by the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Hamilton County EMS transported Evans to a local hospital, and on Thursday, he died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
