Staff photo by Tim Barber / Shortly after 8 a.m., Chattanooga police are on the scene of a 4 a.m. shooting at the Waffle House on East 23rd Street that left an officer wounded but in stable condition. Another person on the scene was shot, according to early news reports.

A Chattanooga police officer was shot while on duty at the Waffle House on East 23rd Street at around 4 a.m. Sunday morning. 

The officer was taken to a local hospital by a fellow officer and released later that day.

Another person was also shot in the same incident and arrived at a local hospital, though his condition is not known at this time, police spokesman Trevor Tomas said.

Dispatch had been notified of some kind of disorder and then learned of the officer injury, Tomas said.

No suspect was in custody as of Sunday afternoon.

Updated at 8:05 p.m. after the officer had been released from the hospital.
