County Mayor Jim Coppinger requested a 34 cent property tax increase in his budget presentation Tuesday morning.

In the fiscal year 2020 budget proposal to the county commission, Coppinger doubled down on his prioritization of public education and public safety, asking for the increase to benefit Hamilton County Schools and managing to award Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond a 6.4% increase.

With the proposed hike, property taxes will go up 13%, meaning a noticeable increase in annual property tax.
