A fire destroyed a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Kimball, Tennessee, Thursday night.

The fire broke out at about 9:45 p.m. CST, Kimball Mayor Rex Pesnell told the Times Free Press. Initial reports indicate the fire started in the restaurant's storage room.

The Kimball Fire Department, assisted by the South Pittsburg Fire Department, put the fire out within about an hour, Pesnell said. But the building, which has been in operation as a KFC since 1987, was declared a total loss.

Pesnell said the restaurant's owners told him it was a well-performing location in the town of about 1,500, and they have "every intention of rebuilding."

"We hate that it happened, but I think our fire department responded and did a good job," Pesnell said. "It's just one of those things ... we appreciate [South Pittsburg] coming and responding also."

The fire rekindled Friday morning and fire crews put it out quickly.
