EPB restored its Fiber Optics service to normal Tuesday night after an equipment failure interrupted internet service and slowed connection speeds for about two hours.

EPB spokesman John Pless said telecom services have been completely restored after making equipment changes following the outages or service cutbacks to many of the 103,000 EPB customers who receive either internet, video or telephone service through EPB's Fiber Optics division.

"We regret any negative impacts experienced by our customers," Pless said in a statement. "We are constantly striving to enhance Chattanooga's community-wide fiber optic network and will utilize this experience to identify ways to further strengthen the system."

EPB's electric system, which supplies power to more than 160,000 customers in the Chattanooga area, was not affected by the problems with the fiber -optic network.
