Authorities are still trying to find a man who disappeared in Lake Lanier Friday after trying to save his friends.

Police have identified the missing man as Corey Lamar Brown, 28, according to Channel 2 Actions News.

The DNR received a call about a possible drowning off the shore near Vanns Tavern Park in Forsyth County on Friday at about 6:15 p.m., department spokesman Mark McKinnon said.

Two swimmers were rescued from the lake, but Brown went underwater near a boat and could not be found.

Authorities said Brown jumped off a double-decker pontoon with a slide and never resurfaced.

"There were a number of people on the boat and they were swimming and going down the slide," Georgia Department of Natural Resources game warden Sgt. Lee Brown said. "One of the people needed help so he tried to help that person and started struggling himself."

The search for the missing man was scaled back Saturday afternoon due to heavy boat traffic, authorities said.

Brown said there were too many boats on the lake for dive teams and recovery crews to locate the missing swimmer.

"When the traffic's high, our boat can't read the equipment and trying to put divers in the water is dangerous with that many boats right there," Brown said.

Dive teams began searching again Sunday morning.

Hall and Forsyth county personnel are assisting with the recovery efforts.
