Area sports notes: Lee women reach GSC semifinals; men fall in OT

The Lee University women's basketball team routed Alabama-Huntsville 90-67 in a Gulf South Conference tournament quarterfinal game Tuesday night in Cleveland, but the Lee men ended their season with a 74-69 overtime loss at West Alabama (22-6). Colton Blevins and Ryan Montgomery each fouled out in overtime with 15 points for the Flames (15-14), and Parker Suedekum and Cody Jones scored 12 and 10. Montgomery's tying 3-point basket with 2:41 to go was the last score for either team in regulation time. For the Lady Flames (23-6), who will face West Georgia - an upset winner over No. 2 seed West Florida - at 3:15 p.m. EST Saturday in the semifinals at Samford University in Alabama - Taylor Boggess scored 21 points, All-GSC first-team selection Abby Bertram scored 20 and GSC freshman of the year Haley Schubert added 15. Lindsey Roddy had 12 and a game-high nine rebounds. Signal Mountain's Aryn Sanders had 13 points and eight rebounds to go with Baylee Johnson's 28 points for UAH (14-13).

Golf

* The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golfers moved up a spot to sixth in the final round Tuesday of the 17-team UNF Collegiate at the Jacksonville Golf & Country Club. The Mocs closed with a 300 for a 54-hole 892, one shot behind South Alabama. Host North Florida won at 871 with Mercer second at 874, Delaware at 875 and Sam Houston State at 881. UTC's Kirsty Beckwith, Monica San Juan and Maddy McDanel shot 221, 222 and 223 in tying for 18th, 22nd and 24th.

* The Dalton State golf teams both won tournaments Tuesday, the NAIA's fourth-ranked Lady Roadrunners winning a playoff with NCAA Division II host Columbus (Georgia) State in the Lady Cougar Invitational and the eighth-ranked DSC men sharing the USCB Sand Shark Classic title with No. 2 Coastal Georgia when the final round was canceled in Bluffton, South Carolina. DSC's Isabel Rijos with a 153 and Ben Rebne with a 142 were the respective medalists, and Matthew Cleary and Zach Womack were in a three-way tie for second behind Rebne at 143.
