NASHVILLE — Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slatery announced Wednesday his office has reached an agreement with a Chattanooga physician accused of TennCare fraud.
Under the settlement, Dr. Ricardo Causo, a local pediatrician, is required to pay the state $125,897.65, Slatery said in a news release.
Citing the Tennessee Medicaid False Claims Act, the state had alleged that from July 1, 2012 through August 31, 2017, "Causo improperly submitted claims to the TennCare program for prolonged services that he did not render.
"The result was that Dr. Causo received payments for prolonged services for which he did not perform," according to the news release.
"TennCare funds are not unlimited," Slatery stated. "And this office will continue to fight for money wasted on fraudulent claims - money that should be going to treat a vulnerable population."
