An active shooter preparedness exercise involving responders, emergency planners and volunteers is set for sometime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. March 12 on the UTC campus, a news release states.
The exercise will focus on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Police Department's ability to "respond to, control and neutralize an active shooter," according to the release.
It will test situational assessment, threat removal and community safety and coordination and communication among multiple agencies.
Such exercises enable public safety agencies to test threat response plans to increase responders' familiarity with procedures and to identify opportunities for improvement, UTC Executive Vice Chancellor Richard Brown said.
"UTC is critical to the community in so many areas and, in contributing to emergency preparedness in the greater Chattanooga area, we are proud to be a leader," he said.
Next week is spring break at UTC, so most students will not be on campus.
