Chattanooga gas prices rose another 6.7 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.24 per gallon on Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 170 local stations.

The average price of a gallon of regular gas in Chattanooga has jumped 29.1 cents in the past month, although local fuel prices remain 3.7 cents per gallon below a year ago and are 24 cents a gallon below the U.S. average.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest stations in the Chattanooga for gas today are in Soddy-Daisy where both BP and Murphy stations are selling regular gas at $2.10 per gallon.

"As predicted, gas prices advanced across much of the country for the fourth straight week even as oil prices held relatively stable at $56 per barrel," said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "The reason for the continued disconnect remains similar to weeks past: refinery maintenance is ongoing and eating into supply and production levels, while more expensive, cleaner burning gasoline is now the predominate fuel being produced. This has pushed up wholesale gas prices even as oil remains mostly calm."

Gas prices in Chattanooga have trended up since early January when average regular gas sold for $1.78 a gallon in Chattanooga.
