A Verizon wireless outage is impacting customers along the East Coast on Tuesday, the company said.

The areas affected by the outage include most of the Eastern half of the United States, including Chattanooga, Knoxville and Nashville.

"We have confirmed there is a texting outage on the east coast. Our technicians a fully aware we have a ton of customers that are being effected, and we're working non-stop to get this matter resolved as soon as possible," the company tweeted.

There was no immediate estimate for repair or how widespread the text outage was, but an official Verizon Twitter account tweeted before 9 a.m. that 'a ton' of customers were impacted.

Verizon recommends customers restart devices occasionally because "this issue can be resolved at any time."
