ATLANTA (AP) - A former suburban Atlanta police officer who was fired last year after an internal investigation found he used unnecessary force during the arrest of a former college football player has been charged with simple battery.

The Henry County district attorney's office said Friday that former county police officer David Rose was charged this week.

Rose's attorney did not immediately respond to an email or a phone message left at his office Friday.

Rose arrested Desmond Marrow on Dec. 2, 2017, while responding to calls of a road-rage incident. Police said last year that an investigation showed Rose was recorded on his in-car camera system saying he had choked Marrow and that he didn't intend to include that in his report.

Marrow played football at the University of Toledo in Ohio.
