A DeKalb County, Alabama, man was jailed Saturday after allegedly stabbing a family member and biting their nose at a residence near Dawson.

A Geraldine police officer had the man in custody when deputies arrived, DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said in a news release.

The suspect, Christian Ramos, 18, of Collinsville, was charged with second-degree domestic violence and he remains in custody at the Dekalb County Detention Center, Welden states in the release.

The victim was transported to DeKalb Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, the sheriff said.

"Our prayers are with this family after the incident. It's fortunate that the injuries were not more severe," Welden said. "There is no excuse for violence like this."
