Authorities in DeKalb County, Alabama, Tuesday night investigated a fatal shooting in the Skirum community on County Road 20.

A news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office in Fort Payne said 33-year-old Jeremy Heath Perry, of Geraldine, was found dead about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the scene in the 2500 block of County Road 20. Skirum is between Geraldine and Dawson in the southern end of the county.

An investigation is continuing and more information should be released later.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to all families involved. We ask that the public do the same during this difficult time," Sheriff Nick Welden said in the release. "I also ask that the public be patient with the process. Information must be limited until the investigation is complete. We owe these families privacy and due-diligence through the course of this investigation."

Also, on Tuesday in an unrelated incident, DeKalb authorities seized suspected methamphetamine, handguns and cash in a traffic stop near Kilpatrick.

Welden said in a separate news release that the items were seized after a high-speed pursuit from DeKalb County across the line into Marshall County. Drug Task Force agents attempted to stop a vehicle around 11 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Alabama Highway 68 and County Road 479 when the vehicle took off.
