Georgia residents who need to update their vehicle registration next week may want to go to the tax office early.

The Walker County Tax Commissioner's doors will close at noon on May 23 and not open again until 10 a.m. on May 28. Tax offices at other counties will also be closed around the same period, though the specific dates and times vary.

The tax offices are installing Georgia DRIVES, a new computer system from the state that is supposed to more efficiently upload vehicle tag and title information.

"Every employee in our office has been working diligently to learn this new system," Tax Commissioner Carolyn Walker said in a statement. "We won't be as fast as we have been with the old system for a while, until we have everything committed to memory. We appreciate your support and patience during this transition."
