COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia police sergeant has been charged with murder in the death of a Columbus woman found dead from a single gunshot wound.

The Telegraph of Macon reports 51-year-old Columbus Sgt. William Leonard Talley is accused of killing 44-year-old paramedic Kelly Levinsohn. Columbus police say they received a call Saturday night about the shooting and were told the suspect worked for their department.

Responding officers were told the suspect had fled and gotten into a car crash. Officers searched the home and found Levinsohn. Her car was gone. Investigators say they found Talley in Levinsohn's wrecked car in Harris County. He was hospitalized with serious injuries and placed under guard. He's on leave without pay.

It's unclear how Talley and Levinsohn are connected or why he was at her house.
