Fort Payne, Alabama, police: One man charged with arson, another with sexual abuse of a child

Fort Payne, Alabama, police have charged a 45-year-old local man with first-degree arson in connection with an April 8 fire in the 1100 block of Godfrey Avenue.

Firefighters responding to the home found a fire on the back porch, according to a statement from police Chief Randy Bynum. Allen Tyrone Bailey was charged in the case May 9, officials said. He was served a warrant at the DeKalb County Detention Center where he was being held on unrelated charges. Bailey has a $200,000 bond.

Child sex abuse charges leveled

A 63-year-old Fort Payne man has been charged on multiple counts of sex charges involving a child younger than 12, according to police there.

Steven Charles Jokinen was arrested May 9 on charges of first-degree sodomy and a count of sexual abuse, second degree, but as the investigation continued the next day, the latter charge was upgraded to seven counts of sexual abuse of a child under age 12, Fort Payne police Chief Randy Bynum said in a statement.

The victims were known to Jokinen, he said.

Jokinen's bond was set at $385,000.
