The body found last week in a submerged car in Whitfield County, Georgia, is suspected to be that of a man reported missing in December, according to the county coroner.

Coroner Greg Bates said DNA tests will not be complete for another eight weeks, but he confirmed that the car in which the body was found had a Whitfield County license plate.

Bates said he was not sure of the age of the missing man but that he was old enough to have adult children.

The submerged car was found Sept. 25 in a pond off Tibbs Bridge Road near Creekside Grocery. It took local firefighters and emergency personnel some time to remove the car from the pond.

Bates said the initial investigation concluded no foul play occurred.

The autopsy and DNA test are being conducted by a medical examiner with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
