The Columbus Foundation's replicas of Columbus' ships "Pinta" and "Nina" are coming back to Chattanooga.

Replicas of Christopher Columbus' ships will be in Chattanooga this month.

Starting Friday, the Nina and Pinta will be open to the public for tours at the 21st Century Waterfront. The ships were expected to arrive in the Scenic City on Tuesday and will be on display until Oct. 27.

The Nina was built by hand and without the use of power tools and is considered to be the most historically correct Columbus Replica ever built, according to a news release. The Pinta was recently built in Brazil and is a larger version of the archetypal caravel. The ships are maintained by The Columbus Foundation.

Admission is $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors and $6.50 for students 5-16. Reservations are not needed.

Teachers or organizations wishing to schedule a 30-minute guided tour with a crew member should call 787-672 2152-or visit www.ninapinta.org, click on "Take a Tour" and fill out the online form. A minimum of 15 is required and is $5 per person.
