Two escape early morning fire in East Ridge

Two people escaped an early morning house fire Friday in East Ridge.

At around 4 a.m., East Ridge emergency crews were dispatched to a home located in the 1400 block of South Moore Road near Ringgold Road on a report of a house fire with residents trapped inside, according to a release from fire Chief Mike Williams.

East Ridge police were first on scene and reported heavy smoke and fire. They helped one resident exit a back door and another through a window in the home, the release states.

Fire crews arrived and began battling the blaze and looking for other possible occupants in the home, but none were located.

The two residents were taken to a local hospital and treated for smoke inhalation. Their conditions were not released. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
