A 33-year-old man was brought to safety Tuesday after being injured while rock climbing in Soddy-Daisy.

A rescue effort began around 11:30 a.m. in the 11000 block of Old Hotwater Road at the Deep Creek climbing wall, according to a release from the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

The man, who was able to call 911, was about 1 to 1 1/2 miles from the parking lot.

Due to the muddy, rocky terrain and the distance of travel to the patient into the woods, the Mowbray Volunteer Fire Department requested additional manpower to carry the injured climber out of the woods, the release states.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment by a friend.
