A Walker County sheriff's deputy who shot and killed his K-9 partner earlier this summer after it attacked him for the second time has resigned after an unrelated arrest.

According to an incident report, Corey Griffin showed up drunk to a girlfriend's house in August and got into a verbal altercation with her and a friend. Nothing physical happened between the two, but there was reported damage to the back door of the house.

Lafayette police gave Griffin a ride home after they were called to the house. Then in September, the police department charged Griffin with criminal trespassing.

He resigned on September 20th before he was charged on Sept. 24 and was later released on bond with a State Court date to appear, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson.

The incident came just weeks after Griffin shot his K-9 partner Rocky after the dog attacked him during a call. The two had been helping serve a warrant in Chickamauga at the time.

Wilson said at the time that deputies issued loud commands to four people inside a home and Rocky became aggressive, refused all commands and bit into Griffin's arm.

Wilson said Rocky wouldn't release his grip and the deputy shot him three times.

Griffin was treated at a hospital and released the next day. Wilson said Rocky first attacked Griffin in November during a search for a shooting suspect.
