The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released the name of the man who was arrested early Thursday morning for an alleged homicide in Gordon County.

Dwight Jones, 39, was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing Krystal Jones, 37, while he exchanged gunfire with responding deputies.

On Thursday at about 3 a.m., GBI was called by the Gordon County Sheriff's Offie to investigate an officer involved shooting and to conduct a death investigation.

Gordon County Sheriff's deputies responded to 558 Mt. Zion Road in Resaca, Georgia, after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance.

When deputies located Krystal, they were confronted by Dwight who immediately started shooting at the responding deputies and at Krystal the GBI said in a press release.

Krystal was shot multiple times. A Gordon County Sheriff deputy returned fire at Dwight, striking him at least once and allowing the deputies to remove Krystal from the residence.

Krystal died from injuries sustained from the gunshots fired by Dwight.

Dwight - who was armed with several firearms and ammunition - stayed in the house and refused to obey orders for several hours.

Gordon County Sheriff deputies were able to talk Dwight down and had him surrender after a lengthy standoff. He was then taken to a hospital and eventually into custody without further incident.

Jones is in jail and is being charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault. It was not immediately clear what Dwight and Krystal's relationship is with them having the same last name.

The GBI Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy on Krystal Jones.

No officers were injured in this incident.

The investigation is ongoing and will be turned over to the Gordon County District Attorney's Office for prosecution once it is completed.
