Man dies in Soddy-Daisy officer-involved shooting

A 74-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday night after Soddy-Daisy police officers responded to a reported domestic disorder, a news release states.

The officers, who had been sent to the 300 block of Harvest Court in Soddy-Daisy, were investigating the complaint at around 10 p.m. when they confronted the alleged suspect, later identified as John Emory Sawyer III, who was armed with a weapon.

Three Soddy-Daisy officers have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with city policy, according to the release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office is investigating the shooting at the direction of the Hamilton County District Attorney's Office.
