Firefighter injured in Beeler Avenue home fire

A neighbor who spotted smoke alerted Chattanooga Fire Department crews to a home fire off Shallowford Road Friday night, a news release states.

Crews responded to the house in the 2200 block of Beeler Avenue before 6:30 p.m.

Smoke seemed to be coming from underneath the structure, but when firefighters went inside there was no smoke, the release from department spokeswoman Lindsey Rogers said.

The firefighters then cut holes in the floor and the side of the house, found the fire under the flooring and extinguished it.

The residents were not at home at the time.

A firefighter sustained a heat-related injury and was treated at the scene, the release states.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
