AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia sheriff's deputy has been arrested on charges of rape and violation of oath by a public officer.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office began an investigation of allegations against Deputy Kendrick Quick, 38, for inappropriate contact with a female suspect while she was in his custody, Sgt. Kimberly Lee said in a news release. A criminal investigation and an internal investigation was conducted and subsequently led to his arrest Thursday, The Augusta Chronicle reported.

Quick was being held at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. It was unknown if he has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Quick has been placed on paid administrative leave until the internal investigation is completed, Lee said.

Quick began working with the sheriff's office in July 2018 and was assigned to Road Patrol.
