SEMMES, Ala. (AP) -- An Alabama woman is in custody after she allegedly killed her boyfriend.

Amanda E. Moberly, 34, of Semmes, called 911 around 11 p.m. Tuesday after an argument with Steven McManus, 51, also of Semmes.

Moberly told investigators they argued in the bedroom and then McManus began choking her, Al.com reported. The Mobile County Sheriff's Department said Moberly then pulled a handgun and fired shots at McManus. When deputies arrived, they found McManus with two gunshot wounds. He died on the scene.

McManus had been shot "at close range" in the hand and in the chest, Capt. Paul Burch said. "The scene really didn't match up to what (Moberly) described (on the 911 call) what was happening," he said.

Two children under the age of 12, who lived in the home, were at the scene at the time of the shooting. They were not injured.

Burch said there had been a history of domestic dispute calls from the residence. Moberly had been free on $1,000 bond for a Feb. 9 incident in which she was charged with domestic violence after hitting McManus. That trial date was set for June 15.
