BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute reopens Thursday for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak closed many attractions in March.

The institute will have new guidelines in place to guard against spreading the virus, Al.com reported.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey's expanded "Safer at Home" order now permits most entertainment venues to be open, with rules for face coverings, occupancy, and social distancing.

The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute is part of the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument and is affiliate with the Smithsonian Institution.
