Bradley Square Mall marked a major milestone this week by beginning Phase II of the center's redevelopment. Contributed Artist RenderingBradley Square Mall in Cleveland, Tenn., will undergo its first full-scale renovation since it opened 21 years ago, an official said Wednesday.
When work is finished by next April, more than $18 million will have been spent on the revamp, including a new 12-screen Carmike movie theater, said Stacia Shahan, the mall's general manager.
The first phase started last May with work on the theater, an open-air courtyard, an enclosed connector to the mall and parking, she said.
The second phase, which started last week, will involve work on the mall's main entrance, Shahan said. The outside of the 511,777-square-foot mall will be pressure washed and painted, she added.
Inside, the food court will be relocated closer to an entrance that was demolished for the theater construction, the general manager said.
"We're trying to get the food court open when the theater opens," she said.
After that work finishes in November, the renovation will break until January.
"Christmas gets in the way," Shahan said. "We don't want to be sanding and painting with Santa sitting in there."
The third phase will involve work inside the center, including changing the paint scheme from peach and teal to more earth tones, she said.
This phase will renovate the entrances near Kmart, signage, and public restrooms along with providing new lighting and other amenities, a news release said.
"Bradley Square Mall will truly be a one-stop, must-experience destination," Shahan said.
In the meantime, Shahan said, efforts are under way to replace Sears, with a potential deal worked out by year's end.
Earlier this week, Belk unveiled plans for a $1.5 million upgrade to its store in the mall.
Phil Brown, the store's general manager, said in a release that Charlotte-based Belk aimed to "satisfy the Southern lifestyle fashion needs of our customers." According to Belk, its work will expand its merchandise, including new styles of shoes and accessories.
The mall, located at 200 Paul Huff Parkway NW, is owned by Baton Rouge, La.-based Morrison Cos.
