The Hixson owner of a tax preparer business has been charged with preparing false federal tax returns.

Kevin Mendell Walker, 44, owner of K&R Enterprises, was charged in a nine-count indictment in U.S. District Court.

According to the indictment, he's alleged to have aided and assisted with the filing of nine false federal income tax returns. The indictment said the returns claimed deductions and credits for items and amounts the taxpayers were not entitled to claim.

The deductions and credits included false education credits, false business expenses and false hobby and investment expenses, according to the indictment.

A man who identified himself as Kevin Mendell Walker declined comment in a telephone call Wednesday. He said he was to talk to his attorney soon.

The indictment showed the credits and expenses were taken for four individuals, who were identified only by their initials.

The largest total of alleged false entries for one person was $14,231, court papers showed.

If convicted, Walker faces up to three years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
