The Chattanooga City Council is expected to consider on Tuesday a $40 million plan to provide better access between Interstate-75 and the Hamilton Place mall area.

The project would offer motorists direct access to Hamilton Place Boulevard for southbound I-75 traffic. Also it would provide a direct route to I-75 for northbound traffic from Hamilton Place Boulevard, according to city documents.

Mall owner CBL & Associates Properties Inc. agreed to pay the city's share of the project cost, or $8 million.

The remaining costs will be funded by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

The aim of the project is to reduce the traffic burden on Shallowford Road and its connection with I-75.
