The biggest maker of tufting equipment for the carpet industry has a new president for only the second time in the company's 34-year history.

Bradford T. Card, a 26-year veteran of the Chattanooga-based Card Monroe Co., was elevated to company president Monday. He succeeds the founding president, Charles Monroe, who remains CEO of the privately owned company.

Card, 51, previously was vice president of sales and marketing where he was responsible for developing new markets and products and directing sales activities in the global carpet tufting industry.

He is being succeeded by Charles Monroe's son, Zach, who has been with the company for eight years.

CMC has nearly 200 employees at its plants in Hixson and Ringgold, Ga. With its patented ColorPoint technology, CMC's tufting equipment sales have risen to record highs in each of the past two years.

"We have had back-to-back record years for sales and we're optimistic about this year," Card said Monday.

Charles Monroe said he will focus more on strategic initiatives, new products and working to assist in the development of the future leadership potential within the Chattanooga-based company.

"CMC is a company recognized for its unique culture, premier products and strong customer relationships," Monroe said in a statement. "Brad is well suited to lead CMC forward as we build on our legacy and together strategically take the company into the future."
