The European cousin of the Chattanooga-made Volkswagen Passat on Monday was named Car of the Year by automotive editors at the Geneva International Motor Show.
VW's four-door sedan that's sold in Europe but not in the United States beat six other finalists including Citroen's C4 Cactus, Renault's Twingo and the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer, according to The Associated Press.
The European-made Passat that was redone last year has an updated collision avoidance system compared to its predecessor and other new technology, including emergency driver assistance and cross-wind stabilization.
The Passat that's assembled in Chattanooga was the Motor Trend Car of the Year in 2011. VW will unveil a refreshed version of the Tennessee-made Passat later this year.
