CNH Industrial, a global maker of industrial and agricultural machines, is closing its crawler dozer manufacturing facility in Calhoun, Ga., this month, auctioning off more than 700 pieces of mechanical tools that have been used in the manufacturing process.

The factory's closure was announced last summer. CNH has operated the Calhoun factory, which employed 120 people, since acquiring it in 2002. CNH officials said in a release that closure of the Calhoun plant is part of its long-term strategy to optimize its construction facilities.

"Closing this plant simply provides the best options for meeting CNH Industrial's current and future business needs," said Bret Lieberman, vice president of manufacturing for CNH's North America brand, last summer.

CNH said employees impacted by the closure may be eligible for separation benefits, pay continuation plans and outplacement assistance.

The Calhoun plant's production will move to Burlington, Iowa, where the company recently invested $24 million in expansions to existing facilities.

The heavy machinery used to make CNH's dozers, however, will not be making the move to Iowa and will be up for grabs at a one-day auction. The auction will take place on-site at the CNH plant and online via a live webcast Thursday, starting at 10 a.m. EST.

Inspection of items will take place on Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The auction will be conducted by Perfection Industrial Sales and Hilco Industrial.

"This sale offering represents a chance for prospective buyers to purchase late-model, large-capacity and well-maintained machine tools with extremely low hours," said Adam Stevenson, president of Perfection Industrial Sales.

Among the items available at auction are boring mills, robotic welding cells and paint tools. An 18 percent buyer's premium will be required by those attending the auction in person, and a 21 percent premium will be required by those participating online.

All items must be removed by Nov. 6.
