Gas prices jump higher in Chattanooga

After seven months of declining fuel prices in Chattanooga, gasoline prices jumped an average 7.6 cents per gallon last week to an average $1.94 per gallon, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 170 gas outlets in Chattanooga.

GasBuddy.com said today that gas prices nationwide were unchanged last week. But Chattanooga gas prices, which have remained well below the U.S. average, rose by one of the biggest weekly amounts since the start of 2015.

Nonetheless, the average price of gasoline in Chattanooga on Sunday remained 35 cents per gallon below the U.S. average.

GasBuddy.com said the lowest priced gas in the Chattanooga region were at a couple of stations in Lookout Valley where gas was selling today at $1.75 per gallon - the same low as a week ago.

Including the change in gas prices in Chattanooga during the past week, prices Sunday in Chattanooga were $1.10.2 per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 9 cents 9 per gallon lower than a month ago. The national average has decreased 22.1 cents per gallon during the last month and stands $1.04.6 per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

"Retail gasoline prices should be expected to continue a slow but steady descent consistent with what typically occurs when cheaper 'winter blend' gasoline becomes more available as we near the beginning of the fourth quarter," said Gregg Laskoski, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst. "
