Food City upgrades St. Elmo store

* Project: Food City supermarket renovation.

* Location: 3108 Tennessee Ave. in St. Elmo.

* Contractor: J.A. Street Construction, which builds all of Food City's supermarkets, is employing a number of local subcontractors for the project, according to the grocer.

* Investment: Part of $40 million to $50 million Food City is investing in its Chattanooga area stores over three years.

* Scope of project: The renovation is one of 12 currently scheduled for this year in the Chattanooga market area, according to the company.

* The remodel: The St. Elmo store remodel includes a new exterior brick storefront and entry with updated exterior lighting.

The interior is undergoing a full remodel, including all-new decor, flooring, interior LED lighting, refrigerated cases and freezers equipped with LED lighting and glass doors for increased energy efficiency. In addition, there is to be a renovation and expansion of the bakery/deli with new equipment and a hot and cold self-service food bar, expansion of the beer selection with the addition of a growler station along with 12 craft beers on tap. A Food City Gas 'n Go with five dispenser stations, including diesel fuel, is also being added adjacent to the store.

* Schedule: Work is slated to be complete by the first week of July, the company said.
