Georgia Wine Producers, a group that promotes wine production in the Peach State, gave Georgia Winery the most awards for its sweet wines at the association's first annual Georgia Trustees Wine Challenge in Savannah, Ga.

Wineries were honored for wines made from grapes grown in Georgia and for wines made from grapes grown outside the state but made in Georgia. Judges came from many aspects of the wine industry, including retailers, wine educators, distributors and journalists.

The Georgia Winery competed against 25 other Georgia wineries at the challenge and was recognized with gold awards for its Chattanooga Blush, Concord and Tara Bella and got silver medals for its Georgia on my Mind, Niagara and Muscadine. Bronze medal winners include Blackberry Blush, Rawlings Ruby Red and Tailgate Red.

Georgia Wine Producers also sponsored the award for "Best Non-Georgia Grown Wine," which went to the Georgia Winery's Blackberry wine.

Founded in 1983, Georgia Winery is Georgia's first farm winery. Specializing in muscadine wine, Georgia Winery has perfected its process in producing wines that taste like "eating the fruit straight off the vine." Georgia Winery has participated in wine competitions all over the world, taking home more than 300 medals.
