Lyft is entering the Chattanooga and Knoxville markets today, providing an on-demand ride sharing service in competition with Uber which entered the Chattanooga market two years ago.

Lyft, the fastest growing on-demand transportation service in the country, will serve most of Hamilton County with its drivers, including East Ridge, Red Bank, Soddy Daisy and Collegedale.

"Whether they're heading to Knoxville's Fourth & Gill or Chattanooga's Riverpark, locals and visitors in Chattanooga and Knoxville will be able to rely on Lyft as their safe, friendly, affordable ride around town," Lyft said in an announcement of the new service today.

To mark the expansion of Lyft into Chattanooga, new passengers will be able to get $5 off of their first Lyft ride in Chattanooga by using the code "LYFTINTYS" on the telephone app.

Lyft was founded in June 2012 by Logan Green and John Zimmer and is now available in more than 200 cities. Lyft currently operates in two metro Tennessee cities - Memphis and Nashville - and five Georgia cities - Alpharetta, Athens, Atlanta, Marietta and Savannah.
