Steve and Reita Ball say they were called into the ministry to start and grow the Metro Tab Church on Shepherd Road over the past 15 years, but Ball has also maintained his family's passion for retail businesses.

Ball, who grew up in a family that owned convenience, jewelry, tire and grocery stores in south Georgia, has opened a new mattress store in Hamilton Village on Gunbarrel Road.

Known as Nooga Mattress, the new 4,200-square-foot store offers an authorized dealer for Tempur-Pedic, Stearns & Foster, Sealy-Posturepedic and Sealy-Crown Jewel lines of specialty, traditional and hybrid beds. The store is being run by the Balls' daughter and son-in-law, Brittni and Brian Raff, along with veteran mattress store manager Gary Bracy.

"We feel like the mattress business is a way to help people sleep and rest better, and we believe that if we offer the best beds to people it can really help them lead a better life," Ball said. "We've always been in the people business, and this is an extension of that."

Ball said the store provides a no pressure atmosphere "and we assist our customers in finding the best mattress for their specific sleeping comfort." Similar to other mattress retailers, Nooga Mattress offers several financing options, including 0 percent loans for up to 60 months.

"Our motto is: Sleep better! Live better!" Ball said. "We're right next door to Stein Mart, which most of the women know about, and three doors down from Dicks Sporting Goods, which the men shoppers know about."

Ball said he sold a commercial loan business a few years ago, although he continues to do some financial advising and commercial loan placement.
