Construction is underway on the first phases of a $20 million upgrade to Ruby Falls on Lookout Mountain.

The historic cave attraction, which has drawn millions of visitors since its initial opening in 1928, is adding a ticket atrium, observation perch, additional retail space, new event space, guest service facilities, and a lobby upgrade.

Lara Caughman, corporate communications manager at Ruby Falls, said the attraction is also adding timed ticketing to allow visitors to know when they will enter the cave and to encourage them to make the attraction more of a destination, rather than just a roadside stop.

"We are on track for everything to be completed this spring," Caughman said of the work being done by EMJ Construction. "It's going to be a wonderful transformation, opening the door to brand new experiences on the Ruby Falls campus."
