One of the oldest names in Chattanooga real estate has combined with one of Chattanooga's newest real estate firms.

Charlie and Nathan Walldorf, the second and third generation owners of the Herman Walldorf and Associates started in 1926, left the downtown family-owned real estate agency last week to join The Group Real Estate Brokerage, which was started last year on Chattanooga's Southside by Realtors Jason Farmer and Kadi Brown.

"In talking with Jason, it seemed like our two firms would be a great fit together and would be good for our business and our agents' business," said Nathan Walldorf, a former president of Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors. "Our philosophies are very similar in wanting to work closely with the client all through the process and making sure all of our agents have the experience and knowledge to serve their clients well."

Walldorf also said the technology platforms and services packages offered at The Group, "will put us in a better position to focus directly on our clients needs."

Herman Walldorf & Co., is Chattanooga's oldest family-owned real estate business and was split in 2011 when the founder's son, divided the business between commercial real estate headed by Rudy Walldorf and residential real estate headed by Charlie Walldorf.

Rudy still owns and operates Walldorf Commercial.

Farmer, a 19-year Realtor who was president of the Chattanooga Association of Realtors a decade ago, owned and managed a franchised Remax real estate agency for 12 years before selling the business in 2016 and starting his own brand.

"The name on the sign in the yard is the person you're going to do business with," Farmer says of his new agency.

The Group, which bills itself as "local and connected," is located on the Southside in a former art gallery at 2646 Broad Street and includes 20 agents. The brokers for the combined firm are now Farmer and Charlie and Nathan Waldorf.

"We're proud to have the expertise of Charlie and Nathan and the great reputation they bring to our firm," Farmer said.
