There was one failure and two low scores after a recent Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department inspection of area restaurants.
Wings Town at E. 23rd St. got a failing grade of 68 after an inspection discovered inadequate managerial control of foodborne illness risk factors, excessive flies in the kitchen and prep areas and rodent droppings in the dry storage area, among many other violations.
New China Restaurant at 3710 Ringgold Road was dinged with a score of 72 and Universal Joint at 532 Lookout St. received a score of 82 after an inspection found inadequate demonstration of knowledge regarding food safety and foodborne illness risk factors. The two eateries were also cited for several other violations.
Seven restaurants received perfect scores.
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department inspects restaurants twice a year and grades the businesses on a 100-point scale. Scores below 70 require corrective action.
Restaurants are reinspected if they fail to meet critical standards. To file a health-related complaint, call the Department of Environmental Health at 209-8110. The scores are original and do not reflect on-the-spot changes, which sometimes lead to upward adjustments.
