Volkswagen of America on Tuesday reported that November sales climbed 9.1% over a year ago as the Chattanooga-made Atlas posted a 48% gain.
Atlas SUV sales in November of 7,756 units marked the third best month for the SUV ever, according to the automaker.
Total VW sales for the month were 29,281 vehicles. For the year, VW sales are 4.2% higher at 335,445, the company reported.
Sales of the Chattanooga-made Passat were only 228 in November as the auto company changes over to a newly designed model.

Atlas SUV sales are 40% higher for the year at 74,108, according to VW.
Sales of the Tiguan SUV, which is assembled in Mexico, rose 24% in the month over last year.
Werner Eichhorn, chief sales and marketing officer for VW in the North American Region, said the SUV lineup is showing consistent strength.
"November's Atlas and Tiguan sales show that we're continuing to meet customer demand as we make up ground in this segment," he said in a statement.
