Chattanooga gas prices drop 2.5 cents in past week with even lower prices expected this week

Chattanooga gas prices fell for a second consecutive week last week, dropping another 2.5 cents per gallon to an average of $2.25 a gallon, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 170 stations.

The price of a gallon of regular gas in Chattanooga averaged 40 cents a gallon less than the U.S. average of $2.65 on Sunday. Local gas prices are still up 11.4 cents per gallon from a month ago, but GasBuddy petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan predicts prices will continue to decline this week despite a slight uptick in oil prices this morning.

"I believe we're due for the national average to edge lower by perhaps five cents in the coming week as I believe increases should be limited due to oil's drop in the last week fueled by continued worry over tariffs and trade, not with just China but now extending to Europe after the WTO agreed with the U.S. that Airbus was getting favorable treatment," DeHaan said today. "Many motorists may scoff at such an issue affecting gas prices, but indeed, the threat of tariffs between such large trading partners is a serious issue that could result in slowdowns in both areas, leaving demand for oil lower and thus weighing on oil prices as a result."

According to GasBuddy price reports, gas prices in Chattanooga average 37.1 cents a gallon less than a year ago. Filling up at the pump is cheapest today in Chattanooga at the Mapco station on Amnicola Highway where regular gas is priced at $2.12 per gallon.

The lowest price in Tennessee is at a Short Stop station in Crossville where regular gas is priced at $1.99 per gallon.
