BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has named Dalya Qualls as director of corporate communications.
Qualls previously served as communications manager with HCA Healthcare, where she directed the company's proactive media strategy and oversaw the team that developed content for digital platforms. She worked with more than 180 hospitals to identify storytelling opportunities for employees and external audiences, securing national media coverage for many of those stories.
Previously, Qualls served as deputy communications director for the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security, where she held primary spokesperson duties and handled media strategy for related agencies. She previously served as public information officer for the department, supporting major initiatives for the state's Highway Patrol, Drivers Services and Office of Homeland Security.
Qualls earned a master's degree in mass communications from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Dr. Samuel Abbas joins Parkridge East
Parkridge Medical Group – East Ridge welcomes internal medicine specialist Samuel Abbas, MD.
Dr. Abbas earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He completed both an internship and residency in internal medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina.
"I am a strong believer in providing patients with proper education and allowing them to be involved in their own medical decision making," Dr. Abbas said. "My goal as a primary care physician is to develop genuine and long-lasting therapeutic relationships with my patients."
Maurice Alston joins Parkridge Cardiology group
Parkridge Medical Group – Cardiology has added Maurice Alston, DO, a board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist,. Dr. Alston received advanced training in cardiovascular disease and specializes in minimally invasive approaches to diagnosing, treating and managing the disease.
Dr. Alston earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Georgia, in Suwanee, Georgia, and completed an internal medicine residency at Doctors Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio, where he pursued further training, completing a cardiovascular fellowship and serving as chief cardiovascular fellow. He then completed an interventional cardiovascular fellowship from The Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio.

Joshua Lawson joins Parkridge as orthopedic surgeon
Orthopedic surgeon Joshua Lawson, MD, has joined the medical staff at Parkridge Health System as a hip and knee replacement specialist with Orthopedic Surgical Specialists.
Dr. Lawson earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and served an orthopedic surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the University of Louisville Hospital, where he received specialized training in anterior hip replacement, patient-specific knee replacement, revision hip and knee replacement, and robot-assisted hip and knee replacement.
Trained in both surgical and nonsurgical approaches to treating conditions that affect the musculoskeletal system, Dr. Lawson partners with patients to develop a care plan tailored to their needs. He offers a wide range of reconstructive options, including anterior total hip replacement, total and partial knee replacement, and revision hip and knee replacement.
Nokian listed in Dow Jones' DJSI World sustainability index
Nokian Tyres, which built a new $360 million tire factory in Dayton, Tennessee, has been included in Dow Jones' DJSI World sustainability index for the third year in a row. The company was also selected for the more strictly defined DJSI Europe index.
In 20 out of the 21 criteria of the 2019 assessment, the company scored higher than the average of the global Auto Components sector.
In May 2018, Nokian Tyres joined the Science Based Targets initiative, which aims to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global carbon emissions.
