An East Brainerd shopping center is gaining an indoor adventure park and a new grocery store.

Urban Air Adventure Park is slated to open next year at Hamilton Village on Gunbarrel Road, where an Aldi grocery store also is set to debut on Thursday.

Rob Murphy of the Cincinnati-based Phillips, Edison & Co. said the indoor adventure park features activities such as trampolines, go-carts, indoor skydiving, climbing walls, laser tag and ropes courses among others.

"They still have to do a study of the market to see what fits best," he said. "We're real excited to have them. They'll bring a lot foot traffic for the whole area."

The adventure park will go in 60,000 square feet now occupied by Dick's Sporting Goods. That retailer is moving across Gunbarrel to Hamilton Place mall.

Mall owner CBL Properties is remaking the former Sears store space to hold new tenants, including Dick's and a Dave & Buster's restaurant and entertainment center.

Murphy said Dick's isn't moving out until early spring, so it likely will be next summer or fall before Urban Air Adventure opens.

Meanwhile, Aldi is opening a 12,000-square-foot supermarket in the former Baby's R Us space in Hamilton Village.

Troy Marshall, an Aldi vice president for the division that includes Chattanooga, said the store is the grocery option that local shoppers need for their everyday lives.

"Aldi stores are designed to save customers time and money, and we're looking forward to helping even more shoppers fill their carts at our new Chattanooga store," he said.

The new store, the sixth Aldi's grocery store in the Chattanooga market, is part of a $3.4 billion investment the grocer is making to expand to 2,500 units nationwide by the end of 2022, according to the company.

The new store will feature a layout with expansive refrigeration space to accommodate fresh, healthy and convenient products, the company said. Aldi recently expanded its product offerings, making 20% of its total selection new, according to Aldi.

The grocer also is offering a 40% increase in its fresh food selection, with many organic, convenient and easy-to-prepare options. The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. A ribbon-cutting will be on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. followed by a gift card offering to the first 100 customers, the company said.

"We really feel it will add something to the market," Murphy said about the new store.

He said Hamilton Village is almost fully leased.
