Chattanooga's biggest hospital is getting some help from the region's biggest bank.

First Horizon Bank said today it is providing a donation of $25,000 to assist Erlanger in meeting needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funds will be used to support clinical technology enhancements that support Erlanger's COVID-19 patient care process.

"Providing funds to the hospital we support with taxpayer dollars is a sound investment in our community," First Horizon market president Jay Dale said. "The challenges faced by healthcare professionals is something no one could have predicted. We want to do all we can to ensure they face these challenges with confidence knowing they are prepared with the equipment they may need."

Erlanger Medical Center has furloughed some employees and cut the pay of some executives after the hospital suffered major revenue losses due to the temporary suspension of all elective surgeries during the coronavirus crisis in the past month. Last month, Erlanger also secured a $50 million line of credit from First Horizon to help the hospital weather the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. William Jackson, president and CEO of Erlanger, thanked First Horizon for its "generous donation to help underwrite COVID-19 related expenses' and said the money "will help Erlanger continue to provide essential care to our community during this unprecedented time."
